The Crown

TV series created in 2016 staring Claire Foy, Matt Smith and Victoria Hamilton, created by Peter Morgan and commissioned by Netflix. The series follows the life of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign and the events surrounding the second half of the 20th century. In the filming of the series Laggan’s Ardverikie Castle was the setting for Balmoral and each year since the series began filming has taken place on the estate. We have had some of the actors and crew stay at The Rumblie during shooting.


The Outlaw King

A film created in the summer of 2017 and launched in 2018 staring Chris Pine.  A Netflix drama following Robert the Bruce’s battle to regain control after being made an outlaw by the King of England for taking the Scottish Crown. We watched some of the filming on the beach at Loch Laggan with two large boats landing men.

The Missionary

A 1982 film staring Michael Palin and Maggie Smith, produced by George Harrison. 

In The Missionary the Reverend Charles Fortescue (Michael Palin) travels 500 miles from London to Carnoustie House in the Highlands of Scotland. Filmed at Ardverikie House in Badenoch.

Mrs Brown

A 1987 film staring Judi Dench and Billy Connolly. Based on the true-life relationship between England's Queen Victoria and John Brown, a royal servant, Mrs Brown paints a revealing portrait of history's most shocking love story. Mrs Brown has scenes filmed at various locations on the Ardverikie Estate in Badenoch.

Salmon Fishing in the Yemen

A 2011 film staring Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt. A feel good romantic comedy regarding the possibilities and improbabilities of introducing the Atlantic Salmon and it's associated fishing to the Yemen. The Scottish scenes in Salmon Fishing in the Yemen were filmed at Ardverikie House and on the Ardverikie Estate near Laggan. The Yemen scenes were filmed in Morocco.
